Teaching as an Art

Teaching as an Art

Had an epiphany on Saturday. It was the second meeting of a class I co-designed with Dr. Shaunessey-Dedrick and Dr. Sarah Keifer at USF. My role is to observe and document successes and failures in course delivery to help rectify any problems. Saturday turned out to be a master class in teaching. My tendency is to push through topic areas and deliver a message. While this can work in certain domains, it really isn’t suited for the study of Creativity. Creativity is elusive, personal, evolving… Watching Dr. Shaunessey-Dedrick gently lead the students into the light was fascinating. I found myself wiggling in my seat waiting for someone to say the things I was thinking, and they did through her guidance. I have seen the light.
